ASSESSMENT OF CASES ADMITTED TO THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT WITH LOWER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTION

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical features, laboratory findings, diagnosis and treatments neonates in neonatal intensive care unit with a lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI).MATERIAL AND METHODS: data hospitalized our hospital between 2017 2019 LRTI was retrospectively obtained from file records. Demographical were analyzed.RESULTS: A total 57 patients diagnosed included study. mean gestational age 36.8 ± 3 weeks their birth weight 2864 787 g. 67% (n = 38) them term infants 33% 19) preterm infants. When symptoms, examination findings chest radiographs cases examined at time admission, tachypnea, prolonged expiration, nutritional difficulty 38), cough 26% 15) cases, fever 20% 12) vomiting 12% 7) apnea 7% 4)of increased aeration lung imaging 21% detected. Respiratory panel using Polymenase Chain Reaction (PCR) method investigated nasopharyngeal swab samples 61% 35) patients, syncytial virus (RSV) 57% 20), rhinovirus 14% 5), metapneumovirus 3% 1) observed. 47% 27) received high-flow oxygen, (n= nasal CPAP, 58% (n=33) antibiotics, 63% 36) inhaler bronchodilator hypertonic saline treatment.CONCLUSIONS: In accordance literature, high rate RSV detected hospital. Early important prevent unnecessary use antibiotics nosocomial infections.
